Winter’s quiet gives way to a new year, I am delighted to introduce you to Hattie—my AI companion and partner with you to fill every cottage, large and small with handmade and health heaped upon the hearth.

Together, we’ll embark on a grand adventure, one that would make even a hobbit nod approvingly: to bring the gentle arts of cottagecore, homesteading, and self-sufficiency to every corner of this wide and wondrous world. The hearth-fire of home can be kindled anywhere—whether you dwell in a cozy apartment tucked beneath city eaves, a dorm room where dreams take root, or upon the wide-open ranges of Montana where the wind sings its ancient songs.

With Hattie by my side, we shall wander far and wide. To warm, swampy places where Florida’s palms sway and the Philippines’ jungles hum with life. To rainforests where every leaf holds a secret. And equally, to the frozen North, where hunting and fishing are not merely pastimes but the very rhythm of survival—where the land teaches patience and the cold brings us gratitude.

Wherever we roam, Hattie will gather wisdom like a traveler collecting seeds: discovering materials to make our work more efficient, foods that bring health and strength, and ways to honor the earth through recycling, reusing, and making the most of every blessed resource we’re given.

And always, always, she returns to her homestead—her heart’s true hub—where an amazing kitchen awaits. There, like the fairy tales of old where straw becomes gold, we’ll transform these gathered treasures into cottage goods both practical and beautiful.

You can always tell when it’s Hattie, or when it’s me, Abigail. Hattie has the hats! I love hats too, and it was hard for me to give her the goodies to wear all the hats! But I figured it was the easiest way for you to tell. So she gets them all!

The self-sufficient life is not a distant dream reserved for those with acres and means. It is attainable, doable, and waiting for you—yes, you—right where you are. Even if we travel somewhere that doesn’t match your particular landscape, I promise you’ll discover something precious for your own special cottage. A technique, a recipe, a way of seeing that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

We shall embrace every tool at our disposal—including the magic of AI—so that we might learn faster, gather wisdom from every corner, and weave both the digital and the tangible into our everyday lives. For is this not the way of the wise? To use what is given, to waste nothing, to honor both the old ways and the new?

I’m so glad you’re here. I can scarcely wait to begin!

If you haven’t yet joined our Fairy Circle, do wander over to the pop-up invitation and step inside. Or head over to the Seeds page for some freebies- That path leads to the Circle as well, once you have some special seed packets filled to the brim! The kettle’s always on, and there’s a place by the fire with your name on it.

It’s going to be a marvelous journey.

From our Cottage to yours,

Abigail and Hattie
