When I get to heaven, I do have a few questions—mainly about ticks, mosquitoes, and the whole Cain versus Abel thing. But if you give me a day with a herd of sheep versus a day in the garden, I’ll take the garden every time! Sheep are cheap, peculiar critters, and they’ll make you say all kinds of swears. Not really sure why God loves them so much, but I guess I’m just a tiller of the land!
I’ve recently discovered the immeasurable good found in Korean Natural Farming (KNF) and the philosophies that stem from Rudolf Steiner. Steiner is a bit of an odd fellow, and so I absolutely adore him! I don’t agree with all of his philosophies, but he’s the first philosopher I could actually dig my teeth into—pun intended.
In the posts that follow, I break things down into simple, manageable chunks. Adding some KNF into your garden landscape will do nothing but good! You don’t have to go too far down this rabbit hole, but I do highly recommend dipping your toes in. It’s a bit of mad scientist combined with old hippie, and I find both endearing!
Seed saving, planting by the moon, and composting are things that everyone will have a try at if you’re out in the garden for very long. Here, I’ll show you how I do it in the high desert of [your location]. If you live in a much more moist region, these methods may need some tweaking. I’d definitely recommend seeing what Steiner has to say about adding silicates into your soil to help with water retention and drainage.
So grab your gloves, leave your expectations at the gate, and let’s get our hands dirty. The garden is waiting, and she’s got lessons to teach.
