Eco Friendly wood

A Change for the Better: Meet My New Love, Natura One Coat

Finding an eco-friendly way to treat my wood products has been a long journey! I’ve studied, tested, read, and observed until I’d nearly given up hope of finding something that would not only work for long-term use but would also bring out the natural beauty in the wood.

You see, wood hair forks have special needs. They face moisture, heat, wind, and of course—hair! Every little snag or subtle lift of wood grain can create a tiny hair catch. A hair fork that pulls instead of sliding smoothly is no good. The finish needs to stay hard, silky smooth, and never gum up.

Luckily, I didn’t give up.

The Wonder of Natura One Coat

Enter my new favorite: Natura One Coat sealer. One coat, no fumes, plant-based magic that brings out a warm, living glow in every wood hair fork I make. Safe enough for little hands (and great-grandkids someday), beautiful enough to make me smile every time I finish a piece.

What makes it so special?

  • Plant-based hardwax oil (VOC/solvent-free)

  • EN 71-3 certified safe for toys and children

  • No nasty chemicals like MEKO

  • Enhances wood’s natural beauty without heavy film or lap marks

  • Non-toxic once cured

But here’s what I can’t quite put into words: the way this sealer makes the wood come alive. Look at these pieces—from a branch on the ground to this! The grain doesn’t just show—it flows like water, like the tree’s memory of wind and seasons. Those deep burgundies and golds were hiding in there all along, and the sealer coaxes them out into the light. Each piece feels like it’s still connected to the tree it came from, like the life force is still there, just resting in your hair. When I sand and buff after sealing, the wood warms under my hands and reveals patterns I didn’t even know were hiding. It’s not just beautiful—it’s alive. And knowing I can create this transformation without health concerns for myself or my customers? That changes everything

From Ranch to Hair: The Journey of Each Fork

Every piece starts right here on our Ranch—sourced from creek runoff, deadfall, or branches that have broken naturally from the main tree body. I often walk around breaking sticks to test their integrity (I’d look like a crazy person if anyone saw me!), making sure they have the right strength to go through the creation process.

Then the real work begins:

  1. Hand-cut to size and carved as needed

  2. Heavy belt sanding

  3. 120 grit sanding

  4. 400 grit sanding

  5. Natura One Coat sealer application

  6. 600 grit finish sanding

  7. Hand buffing to a silky glow

All this work pays off in breathtaking natural hair forks that breathe with your hair—holding power with a lifetime of beauty held in your locks.
